Rihanna’s ‘Talk That Talk’ Chart Review

December 18, 2011

The Barbados Princess has returned with her anticipated sixth studio album, ‘Talk That Talk’, which was merely a year ago when she released her 5th album, ‘LOUD’ which marks it her commercially successful album to date.

‘Talk That Talk’ consists of production from the heavy weights of the music business such as StarGate, Dr Luke, No I.D, Hit-Boy and Ester Dean. The album has spawned a SMASH single, ‘We Found Love’ which debuted at #1 in the UK Singles Chart and peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, scoring her 11th #1 single on the chart. She also topped charts in more than 15 countries. She is now the third female artist with the most #1s on the Billboard Hot 100(Tied with Whitney Houston) and Behind Madonna(12) and Queen Mariah Carey(18).

The single has also matched success of her previous Jay-Z assisted single, ‘Umbrella’ for her longest running single atop of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and its tied with Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep” for the longest #1 running single of 2011. It spent 7 consecutive weeks there and still going strong. In the UK, it has sold an a staggering 732 896 units to date, making it one of the fastest selling singles this year and it set another record for her as the only female artist to soar to #1 six times in five consecutive years.

‘You Da One’ is her second single, and it gained monstrous airplay during its early stages of release, with an incredible mediabase and Audience Impressions. It has so far peaked at #39 in the UK and 14 in the US Billboard 100. The release date of the visual, which I’m sure it will leap it to Top 10 everywhere has not been announced yet.

The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart(six failed attempts to soar all the way to the top spot) and #1 on the UK Albums Chart after pushing 197 000 and 163 000 copies in its first week respectively. In the US, the album dropped in its second week to #7 with just a mere 68 200 copies sold. It has sold 318 000 copies in the US to date and it was certified 2x Platinum in the UK.

However, its gaining more success around the world. According to reports, it has sold over a million, marking it her first album to accomplish such feat in just a short amount of time. BRAVO!! Props to her.

Whether it will still continue to reign the charts or not, its still to be determined. But from the looks of it, its doing pretty damn good.
